Revolution has recently launched its Halloween 2018 collection and I for one could not wait to pick up some pieces.
Beautiful Darkness retails for £6 and features a mixture of gorgeous shimmers and mattes. Can we all take a moment to appreciate the spooky packaging?
Something ‘new’ I’ve noticed about the layout of this palette is the larger pans for the transition and matte highlighter shade which a lot of people will appreciate.
Out of 12 shades there are only 4 shimmers but they are absolutely stunning when applied with your finger, I tried with a wet brush but it didn’t pay off as nicely.
My absolute favourite shade is Dead Rose, my swatches don’t do this palette justice but it is a gorgeous Red shimmer. Poison is also a gorgeous green/brown shimmer whereas Corrupted is a beautiful gold that needs building up.
The back of the box on my palette did have a few spelling mistakes for the shade names but that isn’t really an issue for me and might have been from a bad batch but it really doesn’t effect the palette overall.
As always the shadows are pigmented, buildable and had no fallout for me.
This palette is cruelty free, Vegan friendly and currently 3 for 2 on Superdrug.
Revolution formally known as Makeup Revolution has launched a brand new nudes lip collection consisting of four mattes, four metallics and four glosses. This review is about two of the new matte shades.
I love nude liquid lipsticks with a matte finish so I opted for On Display and Stripped although all of the shades do look stunning.
All of the shades cost £3 each! I’ve always loved that Revolution is so affordable and offer good quality products for such a low cost.
I love both of these shades and can’t decide which one I prefer, Stripped is a softer brown nude whereas On Display is deeper and has more of a burnt orange undertone on me.
They haven’t dried down fully on my swatches but they don’t take too long to do so either. If you have dry lips then it will pick up on these areas, however, it is comfortable on the lips and doesn’t feel too drying.
The applicators are so easy to use, especially if you aren’t using a lip liner! The shape is different to the previous liquid lipsticks in the lip kits but I much prefer the newer wands.
Overall I’m really pleased with the longevity of these lipsticks, they just don’t budge! They are super affordable, pigmented and come in a great range of shades and finishes. I much prefer this newer range of liquid lipsticks formula over previous ones produced by Makeup Revolution.
e.l.f (eyes. lips. face) has recently re-launched back in the UK and is available to buy from Superdrug, I’ve always wanted to try this brand in the past and never got around to doing so. The first product I’ve decided to try is the Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator or Scrub, whichever you prefer to call it.
“Gently exfoliate lips to remove dry, chapped skin with our Lip Exfoliator! A sweet sugar and smoothing sensation, infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils to nourish and protect. This Lip Exfoliator treats and smoothes lips for a conditioned and revitalized feel.” (eyeslipsface.co.uk)
Firstly the exfoliator comes in three different scents/flavours; Mint Maniac, Sweet Cherry and Clear. (There’s a few more choices on the official website) They cost £4.50 each and come in the sleek packaging shown above. One negative about the packaging is it’s quite bulky for the actual product and doesn’t seem overly necessary.
The exfoliator is easy to use due to its lipstick shape, just dampen your lips, scrub in circular motions and wipe away the excess product before applying a balm. It does have a minty tingle without being overpowering at the same time and tastes quite nice!
The scrub itself isn’t harsh which is always a bonus, I found it worked well from the first use and I would recommend it if you get dry lips or apply lip products on a regular basis. For the tiny price tag of £4.50 you cant really go wrong with it.
e.l.f cosmetics are hypoallergenic and cruelty free!
Highlight delight, the sell-out MUR palette you must get your hands on!
If you’re in need of a palette which houses bronzer, blusher and highlighter all in one then look no further than the Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold palette by the brilliant Makeup Revolution. The affordable palette retails at just £6 and contains 8 shades to choose from.
The products are quite pigmented and can be built upon to reach your desired look. (the palette looks so much better in reality)
Whilst the bronzer shade on the bottom row (second from the right) initially scared me to start with I found that it made a great eye-shadow shade, I don’t really wear bronzer much myself but others may love it.
The majority of the shades are shimmery, the only exceptions being the two matte bronzers on the end which are good shades for contouring. Unfortunately my Iphone isn’t the best at capturing how great these shades actually are.
Whilst the palette has sold out on Superdrug it can be found at Tambeauty which is the new home of the former Makeup Revolution website.
This is the first palette ive owned by MUR which wasn’t eye shadows and im really impressed with it overall.
Looking for a lipstick with a satin feel? Then look no further, No7 has an amazing collection of Moisture Drench Lipsticks from gorgeous pink shades to beautiful plums and everything in between.
One of my favourites from this collection is the shade Tawny Rose, a nude pink colour with a lasting finish. The shade is perfect for those out there looking for the perfect nude lipstick which isn’t brown.
As you can see from the image it is a much loved lipstick… What No7 offers is a moisturising lipstick with intense colour and a satin/semi-satin finish.
Of course all products from this brand are hypo-allergenic so perfect for those with sensitive skin.
As ive already mentioned the lipstick has a lasting feel so you don’t have to worry about it coming off easily if you have a drink. It costs £9.95 and is currently on a 3 for 2 promotion.
Have you tried any of the Moisture Drench lipsticks?
This year saw Revlon throw out their old mascara collection such as the Grow Luscious mascara in favour of five new mascaras which offer Ultra Volume, Super Length, Volume + Length Magnified, Ultra Definition and the All-In-One.
I picked up three of these beauty’s when they first came out, I purchased the All in One, Ultra Volume and Ultra Definition, whilst I have only used Ultra Volume so far due to having loads of already opened mascara’s I am very pleased with the results.
The mascaras come in three shades: Blackest Black, Blackened Brown and Waterproof Blackest.
The simple packaging is featured on all the mascaras but alter with the lid colours. If you read my review on the No7 Velvet Lash Mascara then you’ll know what volume is key for me when it comes to mascara. I don’t wear false eyelashes so I love mascaras that create big eyelashes.
The large brush boasts the ‘Revlon Lash Plumping Brush’ which has triple grooves to hold the mascara formula. I love this brush it leads to a smooth application without the dreaded clumps which some mascaras can’t avoid.
Admittedly I had never used a Revlon mascara prior this one due to some negative reviews of the old formulas but I am so pleased that they bought out this new range and I cannot wait to try the rest of the range.
- Three Shades to choose from
- Price £9.99 but often on offer
- Gorgeous voluptuous lashes
One of the latest trends in the world of mascara towards the end of 2015 was ‘velvety soft’ lashes, first on the market was Max Factor with their Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara and then came No7 who launched the Velvet Lash Mascara on Boxing Day.
This mascara claims to add volume which feels soft and luxurious on application, now I for one don’t tend to touch my eyelashes throughout the day so I am uncertain on why the concept was needed, however, I do love volume when it comes to my mascara.
The brush is quite large with a concave shape to contour to the eye, I don’t have a problem with the size of the brush but some people may prefer a smaller wand.
It delivers length and volume which is a big win for me and if you curl your eyelashes it would look amazing. It also doesn’t look clumpy which again is a big pro factor.
It comes in the shades Black of Black Brown and costs £13.50
The Nudes by Maybelline is a 12 shade palette and was released before The Blushed Nudes which you may have read on my previous post but if not catch it here (Maybelline: The Blushed Nudes Edition). Just like its partner it comes in sleek packaging with an open window showcasing the shades.
Although I prefer the pink packaging of The Blushed Nudes, I do think that the black stands out for the classic nude shades housed inside. Although the majority of the shades are shimmery there are also a few mattes.
This palette allows you to create great smokey eyes as well as simply keeping your eyes natural if you want to go for bold lips. I love the pigmentation Maybelline offers without the use of eye primers, the colours are easy to blend and last quite well.
Although again it isn’t the greatest photo to go by I have tried to include some swatches so you can gather some idea as to how the shades look, but believe me they are a lot nicer in person!
The price of this palette retails at £9.99 but quite often enough you can find it on offer, especially in Asda! Seems random I know but they tend to have a variety of offers on their stands, currently you can get the Super Stay (Better Skin) foundation for £6 so it might be worth given them a browse.
Thanks for reading! 🙂
As you may have seen from a previous post I absolutely love Maybelline so when I saw their latest Nudes palette I simply had to get it. This palette is different to your everyday nudes collection you may have, its ‘blushed’ so comes in a great array of pinks and peaches rather than your normal brown/bronze shades.
One of the things I love about this product is its girly packaging, I love the metallic pink case its housed in, the other Nudes palette they have comes in your standard black packaging.
You get 12 gorgeous shades which are all shimmery, this is my favourite palette at the moment and costs only £9.99. I don’t use eye primers but have found that these eye shadows last brilliantly throughout the day and they also blend well together.
I don’t use the brush which is provided as I prefer to use a No7 eye brush I received in a free gift promotion they had at Christmas….
I’ve tried my best to swatch these for you, apologies if the quality isn’t the best I’ve never actually done it before and only have access to an Iphone camera. The first shade I did swatch is rather pale so you may not notice it.
As you can see there’s some lovely shades ranging from light to dark, I particularly love the peachy bronze shades and the pale pinks. I haven’t actually used all of the shades myself so I cant wait to see what different looks come out of them.
The palette is great for the daytime and with different shades to mix and match you cant really go wrong.
For me this set is definitely a stand out product and teamed with their Lash Sensational Mascara makes the perfect eye look.
Do you love the nudes look?
One of my favourite make up brands is Maybelline and during the festive period they released a collection of IT Look boxes exclusive to Superdrug I believe which are perfect gifts. During the Easter holidays they were reduced from £30 to £15. I picked up Downtown Vamp which will be reviewed in this post and also the Uptown Girl box which will be in a future post.
First of all the box cover reveals the look you can create and the inside of the box also has a tutorial to follow but this is also available on YouTube!
I love that the tutorial is included but of course you can create your own look with the fabulous products included.
All the products above are included and can be kept neatly in the tray if you don’t wish to throw away the box.
You get the following:
- Lash Sensational (Intense Black) £7.99
- Master Shape Brow (Soft Brown) £2.99
- Master Ink Liner £4.99
- Baby Skin Primer £7.99
- Face Studio Blush 60 (Cosmopolitan) £4.49
- Color Sensational Lipstick (Siren in Scarlet) £6.99
- ColorShow Nail Polish (Blackout) £3.99
Total worth: £39.43
The box is worth getting if you have it on offer, I doubt I’d actually pay £30 for it, luckily for me I can use the soft brown brow pencil but unless you have brown hair it would be useless for you.
I absolutely love the lipstick provided, ive only worn it once but straightaway fell in love, its durable and lasts for hours! Even when having a drink I found it didn’t budge which is always great news for lipstick wearers.
I know this post is quite photo heavy so i’ll end it with a final shot of the Cosmopolitan blush, at first I thought omg this shade is far too bright but actually if you only put a small amount on your brush then it comes out quite subtle and a lovely soft pink.
The only thing I don’t like about the blusher is the packaging, I find it quite awkward and fiddly to open due to having to lift and slide the lid about.
Overall im really pleased with the IT Look box and hope that Maybelline or any other brand for that matter offer more of these beauty boxes.
